The GENIUS of an Ice Cold Beer

"Genius means little more than the faculty of perceiving in an unhabitual way."
–William James

Modern research now defines a genius not necessarily as one with a high IQ but rather as one with a unique relationship to their subconscious mind. At the deepest level, the subconscious becomes an impersonal mind often referred to as the collective consciousness. This “impersonal mind” is a library of symphonies, equations, and discoveries many of which are just waiting to be plucked from the Shelves by a future genius. And just how does a genius access this Library?

“Great geniuses routinely disengage from rules of ordinary perception that most of us think unbreakable, playing havoc with commonplace notions of time, space and form.” (Richard Poe) If we compare the collective consciousness to the internet, you could say a “genius” knows how and where to get a strong wireless signal. There are places around the world called vortices (vortex in singular form) where one could say there are very strong wireless signals to the collective consciousness. The New York Times featured an article on the booming spiritual tourism industry. People are taking trips to spiritual vortices at Machu Picchu, the Pyramids, Sedona, the Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland, Stonehenge, etc.

A spiritual vortex doesn’t only take place at a geographic location. It could be a certain type of music that provides the signal. For instance, when Einstein hit a mental block, he’d often listen to Mozart. Or when my friend Marty Masterson is pondering a new creation, he’ll drink an ice cold beer. In other words, the process of tuning mind and body is a very individual process. The point being just as Thoreau said, “The music is perpetual. It’s our hearing that is intermittent.”
